Pilot Ben 28
Hi everyone, Looking on HK today and saw a bomb drop. It was eight quid, so I decided to make my own. Mine drops anything from fuel tanks, to tangerines, to donuts, to parachute men. It tapes on to the bottom of my foam - e. You will need the following: A 9g servo ( or thereabouts - not too big! ) A rubber band A ring of fuel tubing A smallish screw that goes through the servo arm Cyano Scrap balsa A bomb Optional - glass fiber tape Mount your servo with cyano on the rectangle of balsa so that the arm can move 180. Put a screw through the arm and slide the fuel tubing over it. At the opposite end of the rectangle, zip tie, glue, or tape your rubber band, so that it can reach the servo arm. When the servo arm is pointing AWAY from the band, the band will be on the tip of the arm. When the arm is pointing TOWARDS the band, the band will slide off the arm. Your bomb will be held onto the balsa by the band. When the band slides off the arm, it pings away, and your bomb is released. You will need to mount your bomb rack on the cofg, and see how much the cofg changes by when the bomb is released. Simple. Warning: Pilot Ben accepts NO telling off when you drop your cardboard bomb on someones head. With minimal modifications, it becomes a glider release, or a streamer attachment. Club Members Bravedan 106 Posted January 10, 2016 Club Members Share Posted January 10, 2016 Just be aware of:- Article 166 1. A person shall not cause or permit any article or animal (whether or not attached to a parachute) to be dropped from a small aircraft so as to endanger persons or property. Note, depending on interpretation, it does not say you can't do it, just that you have to control release to ensure safety.
Pilot Ben 28
Fair point. Then again, if all the committee members do donut drop, it must be OK! B
