wot 4 foam e undercarriage

I recently took the undercarriage off my wot with a gentle pancake landing (ask Gerard). I have hot glued it back and it is ok. Can anyone tell me what I can do to strengthen it up when I take it off next?

Hi Ben,

Several people have put long nylon bolts through the undercarriage to the inside of the fuselage and a ply plate on the inside so that the load is spread across the foam. I have done this and it works well.

Thanks Trevor. I have looked at it again and it seems strong enough, but is not very pretty, but you cant see it anyway. When it rips out again I will do the mod, because if it ain't broke don't fix it!

The problem of repair is caused by the fact that Gerard and I dry fitted the plate back in place, and it fitted well, but when I put glue it didn't, and I didn't want to rip it out, so I left it. It is flush with the fus, but is 0.5/1cm forward, so the batt hatch is cut a bit and a balsa plate put on top so the clip is tight. Besides, after seeing Emays, I feel like mines a museum piece!

All I have to do is to do a greaser landing every time!!!

Its fixed... I had to put a bit of weight at the back to balance it out correctly. I used long M4 bolts. If you carefully look at the front, you can see some fishing wire that I have stretched from the undercarriage and cowl to provide a flying wire that strengthens it. For the M4 bolts, they are actually from a light switch, and I had to smash apart the switch to get the nuts!!!!!!!

 

All I have to do is be careful when I pick it up and change battery as I don't want to snag the flying wires.

See you all soon, tmow looks a bit windy for "fun" flying, so i'm going to clean the garage.

I flew it today and it worked brilliantly, despite stalling deadstick (my fault for ignoring alarm) and landing directly on undercarriage, there was not a hint of damage. I honestly think the flying wires do help........

If anyone hasn't done this, and thinks they'll get away with it, trust me, u won't...
