  1. haaaaa, I wish... Sadly not mate.. If I had my own stewardess, I certainly wouldnt have time for a flight sim

I'd love a real 737 Sim, but those are £40k to buy, almost ready to go, and are about 3 times the size of my dinky little setup..

I had tried FSX previously, but was totally unaware of the entire world of addons and hardware that was available for it, and it wasnt until you pointed out GEX/UTX that I looked them up and discovered an alladins cave of goodies...

Thus for me, FSX was reborn

Its pretty awesome to fly it too..

  2. Serves him right too, hes a feckin idiot.. Typical Americans stupid comments on his youtube video too..

Flying like that is only going to cause problems for everybody the world over.... To put the video online is just beyond moronic.

The problem now is, its not just him who will suffer the consequences, but the entire RC hobby and FPV in general.

  3. Hey Arun

So, haven't been up the field for ages, after getting the NGX and making a few tweaks to my flight sim setup, here is why I haven't been at the club in ages..

Got rid of the office desks, replaced them with an Obutto R3Volution and all flight sim hardware from GoFlight and have been learning the Boeing 737 NGX for about a year so far, in my spare time. Incredibly addictive...

Got the performance nailed down now with 2 PC's running the flight sim and god knows how many addons on top of FSX itself..

My sim setup has changed massively since Chris last popped round and had a fly on it..

I joined a Virtual Airline too a few months ago and got onto their pilot training scheme which is really good too..

  4. Bummer... I think Leon is the only person I have ever seen who can actually answer his phone and keep flying at the same time. I religiously leave my phone in the car when flying, I don't even want to hear it ringing...

Shame about your planes mate :(

  5. Ah haaa...

I ditched the Dell XPS 8100 I was trying to run it on and built a monster, using 2 SSD drives in RAID0, with an ATI 6990, and it now fly's along (Excuse the pun)

Can make you feel a bit dizzy though flying a jet out of london city airport doing aerobatics @ 500ft when you use 3 screens, as the feeling of actual movement is uncanny...

I was thinking of getting the PMDG 737NGX for mine next...

I've added almost the entire Saitek pro-flight range, and it really really changes things dramatically, makes it soooo much more enjoyable to use, but I did have to add 14 USB ports to run it all

  6. I think the first project should be to come up with an anti-drowning device to wake peter up, if he dozes off in his bathchair  Or not.. ha ha ha

Seriously though, this thing WILL have huge potential in the RC world..

I could easily see these replacing the KK boards, and having super simple USB HD camera hookups, even POE charging and flight data downloading, programmed flight patterns and more..

  7. Rich,

Now I know you've got time on your hands and you are probably going to need lots more with that amazing simulator setup!!!!!

Hiya matey.... Long time no see...

This setup is even more awesome when I plugin the Saitek flight yoke and all its "fluff", its bloomin mental :-)

  8. Richard, Out of interest, what is the spec of the PC you built (i.e. graphics card, cpu, case, power supply, mobo etc.)?

lol, I didnt want to brag, but as you asked...

    Corsair 600T case

    Corsair AX850w modular PSU

Corsair H100 twin fan Radiator cooler for CPU

Intel i7 CPU quad core HT @ 3.6gHz (New socket 2011 type)

    Asus P9X79 pro systemboard

    16GB Corsair DDR3 1866 Memory

ATI Radeon 6990 4GB Dual GPU graphics card (Supports 6 screens if needed)

2 x 450GB SSD hard drives in RAID0 (Always cold to the touch and silent)

The systemboard is totally awesome, and its onboard monitoring software is excellent..

So far, when running normal day to day stuff, web, emails, photo/video editing, it runs at about 24deg CPU and 30deg mobo temp, and when being pushed hard, the CPU temp climbs only as far as 37deg and the systemboard temp stay around 32deg the whole time, but you can program all the system fans to whatever speeds you like, for different temperatures..

It was the graphics card that started all this... Got it on eBay, used, for half price!!!!

Wouldnt fit in my little Dell 8100, so decided what the heck... Time for a new PC :D

I did have to fit 4 Antec quiet fans to the side door to get the motherboard temp down from 40deg to 30deg, but those fans are silent, they only run at 600rpm..

Oh, and dont forget the 2 blue CCFL lighting I put in it too lol...

  9. Richard

You should maket your services to convert existing PC's for simulator users or offer to build a PC for a fixed price....keep you busy...

Problem is, most existing PC's cant fit the graphics card in that I bought, so I had to start from scratch and build my own PC.

Not sure I would really want people on my back about their PC though.. People are lazy, and bug you for absolutely everything because they cant be bothered to read the manual..

The problem in just using a bigger single screen is everything the n gets bigger, so you gain nothing other than everything on-screen is bigger, which is great, as you can sit further back, but you still dont get that peripheral vision that any single screen setup restricts you to.

3 x projectors and hell yeah, that would be mental

  10. Hiya Arun

Have finally sorted out my flight sim x, and ended up building a new pc to run it all in the end...

My old graphics card struggled to cope, despite the pc having loads of grunt.

Bought a new graphics card, it is so big it wouldn't fit in my dell, so just wound up building a new pc instead, with triple screen gaming...

Oh, have you seen the saitek pro flight kit? Pretty good stuff, and totally changes the sim :-)

  11. Finally got to test out ATI's eyefinity setup this morning with Phoenix and its bloody awesome!!!

So much more peripheral vision makes a massive difference

  12. Feels the same, looks the same... What makes you say that Pete..

Still frequently very slow, and I still cant upload an avatar bigger than 12kb, and 80px x 80px...

C'mon Paul, I know your busy mate, but seriously, these tiny tiny restrictions on avatar sizes and KB's..?

The smallest I can get it to, at 80px x 80px is 14kb, and by then, its lost any detail at all making it pointless :(

  13. Hmm, thanks Dave... How exactly do I discharge a lipo that has zero voltage at any of its power connectors, both the main cable and the balance leads?

I'm not keen on trying to dismantle the thing, and it is likely that it is still juiced up, but has a busted connection somewhere after the short-out..

  14. If I remember correctly, I believe you're supposed to soak dead LiPos in salty water for 24 hours to make them inert before disposing of them. I'm sure google will tell tell you for sure.

That is after you rupture it with a pin or nail.

lol, if you rupture the pack, salt water is the least of your worries

  15. Thanks guys... I've give overlander a call tomorrow and ask them :-)

For the sake of £10, its not worth prodding about with it and find 1 or 2 cells are live and go bang on me..

Needless to say, once I got the wiring the right way round, my groundstation power system is now working, and each battery is switchable, with a pretty green light and a voltmeter to monitor it :D

  16. Well, I finally did it, and shorted out a lipo, only for a fraction of a second, but now its showing as totally dead..

I put it on the battery meter, and nothing, no power at all, battery meter doesnt even come on.. Tested the meter with other Lipo's and its fine.

I will say too, I did this testing a custom made switch setup for my FPV groundstation, and accidentally plugged in cables into the switch the wrong way round as they are all blue crimp connectors, but I did it in the garden just to play it safe, and sure enough, the fraction of a second it was switched on and sparked, the lipo and its cables, and the EC5 on the end of it got VERY warm indeed, so I unplugged it and left it outside..

It happened in the blink of an eye, the time it takes to flick a switch on and immediately off again..

No puffing at all, it just got instantly hot...

Am I right in assuming it simply discharged EVERYTHING it had, all at once in that shorting out, hence it being dead, and the heat?

Whats the best way to dispose of it, as I wouldnt even consider trying to recover it for the sake of £10..?
