I have put the numbers in the program to calc the cofg and it spits out two sets @25% of MAC 226 mm from Leading edge of wing at root or Fuse. @33% of MAC 250 mm from Leading edge of wing at root or Fuse. Hope this helps, but it look ok on Sunday to me maybe a tad nose heavy. André

A test I have also used is to hold the wing tip at the leading edge so fuse is horizontal to ground and drop an invisible line at 90 degrees IE straight down to the fuse and that is usually a good c of g starting point. This is a rule of thumb I have picked up from many of my designs that seems to work well. But get the measurements I asked for and i will calc the c of g from the LE of the wing at the fuse. As a simple observation i would have thought the c of G will be about 1 inch in front of the middle wing bolt. I assume those bumps are three wing bolts

IF no luck with Ebay I have a C of G Calculator program all I need to know is the root chord tip chord wing span and sweep distance from leading edge of root chord back to leading edge of the tip chord. From these numbers I can calc a good starting point for the c of g.

The magnum is repaired, looks almost as good as new, and engine tuned last night its running sweetly, thanks to Jimbos master class in engines over the last two weeks. Its amazing I have two of the same engines running the same prop and the main and idle needle settings are different. Still plane is ready now and waiting for a flying partner to chase me round the sky....

Yep i have learned a lot as well from Jimbo.....Mr engine

Well flew Magnum again on Sunday in very windy weather and the engine was well playing up a bit...switched to 9*7 prop and the launch was just as hairy as the three previous launches on a 8*8 prop. I think this time it was just an engine tuning issue which will be resolved..it flew well in the wind which is to be expected and was fast but not ballistic. The engine died on the down wind leg of a pass in heavy wind at a moderate speed (was just trying to get a feel of the windy conditions at a lower speed in preparation for landing at about 40 feet and had to execute a hard right turn a

Yep same engine so with a little luck should be as fast if not faster...last one i built had a TT42 and tuned pipe and was very fast on a 10*7 and made a great prop noise....had to prop up as was making too much noise. I hope to have mine up there on Sunday so you can have a look at the new version. If you look at this web site you can see what it started out as, before I got my hands on the plans. I turned a plane into a ballistic missile. http://www.westfieldmodels.co.uk/index_ ... ge0001.htm

I have done it again and modified a RCME plan and build, about the tenth version of the Hawk. This time I beefed up the fuse to take a MVVS 40 and tuned pipe and changed the wing build design to allow two hardwood spars to run along the length of the wing and used a 12mm balsa to make the wings , increased by 2mm and profiled with plane and sanding block. I have beefed up the elevator servo and control rods to cope with the heavier load and greater stress. This plane while not as aerodynamic as the MagnumR will be as fast and weight about the same. So should be fun to burn up the ski

You got it in one there that's the correct way to measure the c of g..mine worked out at about 142 mm. I will be trying a new engine in my Magnum on Sunday as the Old TT 46 pro suffered a bit. So I will be using a MVVS 40 Q500 engine not the same as the west 50 at 21000 rpm but will do 18000 all day long. Her Klunk. Another tip make sure you set your throttle cut switch as its better to land at our field with engine running and cut it just short of the run way to save the prop. I do not fancy the dead stick landing in this bird until you have a good feel for it. Its better to throt

Well first flight nerves and all that with help from Jimbo managed to get her in the air just...engine needs to be tuned better but after a hairy take off due to lack of rpm motor was not running well....limped into the air and flew around for 5 minutes but the engine would not come on to the pipe...but she was still fast man it ate up the sky. It was a good thing as at full chap this plane is going to be a missile that's for sure. I am glad I set the CofG at 140-145 mm as the plane had a nice long glide and did not tip stall. Flair her in and plop her down. The landing was easy it seems
-
I think I will try the 140 and see how she behaves at slow speed and see as the main concern is a slow vs very fast landing....at our field where we have loads of trees....
-
I am sure that there a few of us who would gladly take up your new lady for a test flight for you having given it the once over. Nice looking plane....hope to see it on Sunday at the field.
-
I have done some searching on the net and loads of guys set there c of g at 140 mm not 130 as you will loose elevator effect at low speeds. Food for thought.
-
With some luck I will have a MagnumR with a TT46 pro and a tuned pipe on and 8*8 to chase yours round the sky....hope the postman does not let me down.....
-
Well Jimbo sorry for your loss and anyway your plane was faster than petrolheads ME 106....now if I can just get that dang pylon racer of the ground.........
-
After much ado about a launch... a will not be asking Jimbo to launch my planes again...he he but she fies managed two good flights but manged to go dead stick on last and stalled her at about ten feet and she nosed in but not to bad just a small repair to sides of the fuse where battery is located. Need to test her more maybe a bit nose heavy so might adjust battery with repair and little engine screams on a 7*4 but looks good at 70 mph. Not the fastest but may try 8*6 which should make for a nice 100 mph. The SC 12 ABC runs like a demon and likes to rev at the top end...
-
I cant wait to see that at the field.....if you need some help to fly I will gladly stand and spotter while you fly along side Joe.....With a bit of luck my Pylon racer will be ready for the weekend, but not sure she will be as fast as the magnum 50 mine only has a Q500 Mvvs 40 rear pipe running and 8*8 if I can get the damb engine to run..... the plane is a Lanier Predator 500 and it has an UC. Hope to see you on the weekend at the field.... and a new 1/2a speed plane but with a .15 as opposed to a .09 as it was designed to fly with should be fast with a 6*6 but not as fast as the the Mag

Between Ken's shed and my flat we will have the production line at full swing soon....

Well some end up in a store room at work, some get recycled and some go to the airplane heaven in the sky and the rset just clutter my living room....

The New IC Jet....looks good....
-
Here is my latest project the IC .12 version of the EJet that flew last weekend. I have made the wing and fuse as you can see just need to cover glue together and screw in the servos etc. AUW 20 ounce's Wing Area 280 sq in Wing loading 10 ounces SC 12 Prop 8*4 or 8*6 pusher HS 81 Servos *2 Wing 1/8 hardwood spars sandwiched between 1/8 balsa sheet and sanded to profile. Elevons from 1/8 sheet with 1/16 ply to support control horns.

Looking good Darren.....look forward to seeing it fly at the field....

I have designed or revised an old design for Bob cat with a .12 SC engine on the back. I will use an SC 12 start with a 7*4 prop mini servos *3 micro for throttle *1 Will have one servo for each aileron as this will be a small model flaperons are a must for a controlled landing. My previous Cat, dropped like a brick when the engine cut even with a built up wing. So with a few modifications to the rib profile and making the plane lighter target AUW 24ounces giving a wing loading of 12 to 14 ounces. As this is a small model weight is my enemy on the building board. So fuse 1/8 me

Just a suggestion to the tiger shark crew.... given i have had my fair share of fast planes and had a fair few hours on them...if you guys need a spotter at your side I am always willing to lend a hand and some friendly input during flying.......and besides Joe ...do I get to have a go as well....
