Lanc flying into Biggin Hill this morning round about 11.45 - 12 00. going up to have a look. John

Wife came in from a school film show last night and said several people there were saying that a Wellington was visiting Biggin today.

 

Having been educated in these things (I do try!! ) she pointed out that no Wellington was currently airworthy, and the nearest one to view was in Brooklands in roughly "as recovered from Loch Ness" condition. (And there is the one that was on display in the RAF Museum, making two, but this may still be away being restored)

 

They were adamant they were right................SIGH.............

I wonder why the Lanc is coming in to Biggin? Must be for some local event? Anything to do with a memorial service at croydon or kenley, I wonder?

Well, the "Ginger Whinger" did a feature on BBC and was passenger on it for that flight. May just have been for them, though they usually try to "cyclic diagram" it to save hours, as the railway world uses?

Had a Lancaster fly over RAF Waddington last Saturday, I was there doing a Track Day for RAFA.

It was at Biggin Hill for the commemoration of the Dam Busters Raid 70 years ago.

No event as such on the memorial flight website, and Facebook site.

Interesting read though, and some nice pictures.

Must have touched down for re-fuel and offload Ginge.

I was well aware of all the details of Barnes Wallis and the bouncing bomb but still learned a thing or two from the programmes.
