But, the same questions are being posted over on RCMF. Not that I want to tell anyone what to do, but if any of you feel like jumping in (Jimbo ) with your $0.02c worth it might be helpful. http://www.rcmf.co.uk/4um/index.php/topic,35679.0.html

I believe Roger will be taking requests from March. We'll get the precise details and post them somewhere, you won't be forgotten

This is a question for Roger really, but in my opinion it's because we were having to extend the flying time more and more and soon we'd be opening TX control at 4am It really is a way of ensuring that those who come actually get to fly but I'm sure Roger isn't planning to restrict it to the 'big names' so no worries there.

Trevor, A picture makes it so much easier, click on the link in my reply above. Fuel dots are a metal ring that you fit in the cowl/fuselage side through which a piece of fuel tube pokes. You have a bung that when you fit to the fuel tube and push back into the metal ring it all fits nicely. Looks like a flush fitting alloy button.

Terry, I've used fuel dots in the fuselage side for the filler, this sort of thing but can't remember where I got them from. http://centralhobbies.com/Fuel/fuel_fittings/tetdots.html The vent just hangs out in the breeze out the bottom of the cowl. Remember to plug it after use as a dribble of petrol in the car really stinks As for fittings etc, I bought a replacement bung and tygon tubing from Just Engines (they may have dots too), otherwise it's standard 3 line tank setup.

Guys, Posted some show details on RCMF, see http://www.rcmf.co.uk/4um/index.php/topic,35679.0.html

Paul, thanks for the offer we'll be in touch. Leon, yes yhe show dates are set 15th & 16th Sept. Thanks for the once over, I'll go hunting wrong dates at the weekend. Anyone have any other comments or want to write a bit for us to put on there?
-
..... oh I should point out if you are thinking of having a browse through the pictures, I hope you have plenty of time as there are 673 of them

Yes at long last the Southern Model Airshow website is up with 2006 pics. The front page has been updated a bit, but I've just noticed that the graphic at the top needs the 2007 date added. It's been a very quick update just to get the pics up really, please have a look over the entire site and tell me what's wrong and we'll set about fixing it. Gary and I have been talking about how to overhaul the site, let us know if you have any ideas of have some spare time on your hands and would like to be involved. http://www.southernmodelairshow.com

Trevor, You do know that I've got an MVVS powered 68" Glens Cap and theres a thread about it in the plane reviews section?
-
You'll probably find an ASM Pitts very nose heavy with that motor. I did think about an MVVS160 but it's about 1.1kg with silencer and ignition, the Zenoah is slightly heavier and the OS120AX I've fitted to my Pitts is only 640g The ASM Pitts was designed around the OS120FS mkIII which is about 900g With my OS the Pitts balances spot on with battery just on leading edge of wing, so it could take a heavier engine and battery further back (such as teh OS120FS it was designed for). But it might be a challenge to balance with a petrol engine that's nearly a pound heavier.

Peter would be your man for everything Miles, but I've used pictures found on the internet, printed in colour, stuck on a balsa cockpit and glazed with some thin plastic does a reasonable job. I guess you could simulate buttons, knobs etc with blobs of pva and use plastic card (as used for model boats) for anything structural. I guess it depends if your aim is to wing Top Gun or just to have something that passes inspection at a casual glance. Don Coe will have some ideas given the quality of his cockpits

oh, and get some white spinners for the twin - yuk

Damn these 9-5 city jobs Glad to hear that one of the two got in the air. Do you want to borrow that Irvine 72 I offered for the Bobcat

There's a guy over on rcmf.co.uk who I think is fitting on to an YT Edge - look at the posts in the YT section - Edge 540 build. My only experience with petrol are with the MVVS engines, but my first concern would be the included silencer. The MVVS come with something similar to the one shown on your link but they're about as useful as the proverbal chocolate tea pot. A nice BCM silencer is about another £45 - just engines have all the sizes & shapes listed on their website. But Zenoah have a good reputation and with electronic ignition (as opposed to the old magneto setup) I

Metcheck says 21-27mph winds today, still planning test flights? Might be available for pics, but nipped out for a quick drink with some mates last night and I'm suffering from 9 hours of beer, wine and whiskey and I haven't been home long and need some sleep

Yep, it looks like everyone other than Gary & I were limited to 3. It can't be unlimited so I've set it to 12. As for the picture order, I've found that as you add files it fills bottom up, i.e. add your last pic first and work to your first pic last - make sense Finally, I've switched on the attachment posting control panel - supposed to make it easier to do attachments. Please let me know what you think (i'm yet to use it myself)
-
Don, Looking good, just don't know where you find the time Also, you make it look so easy - I'm sure plenty of practice is required with those joints. New new year. p.s. Do you get an error/message with the 3 picture thing? I certainly can post as many as I like. I'm just off to see if it's anything to do with me being 'administrator'

I seem to remember some of the Hype 3D flyers using a 13x4. I'm no 3D expert but I think you need big diameter and small pitch to give you fast acceleration/decceleration, after all you're not really interested in top speed.
-
Trev, Nice flights today, sorry no pics I was a little preoccupied with something else I'm just about to post a 'Todays flying' thread in general chat which answers your other questions
-
LOL Joe, I think it has the potential to become my regular hack - it was that good. I have a couple of ideas for simple mods to help making rigging a bit simpler and as long as those horns stand up to frequent use. I think the carbon fibre versions are going to be needed for the future.
-
Yep, the standard Powerbox silencer and the 90 twist adapter.
-
Just finished sorting out the pics and a disk to be sent to pilots/traders as normal. Either Gary or I will upload them to the SMAS website shortly. You'll need plenty of time, after a lot of pruning there are still about 600 or so images to look at I know everyone is keen to see them, I'll try and do it tonight if I can remember the website logon

and time to draw this thread to an end. The weather was good and no excuse for putting it off any longer. Until I arrived at the field, the OS hadn't seen a drop of fuel so we'd have to see how it goes. I should have known better, a bit of fuel, needle valve open 2.5 turns as it says in the book and a reverse flick against the compression and it sprung into life. Throttling and running didn't miss a beat and after 3/4 tank Jimbo and I agreed that it couldn't be put off any longer. So after a quick refuel and waiting for an appropriate slot (Roger's ultimate and Steve's panic
-
but this Sunday looks sweet ........ Couldn't decide what to do about the needle valve extension, so just cut a hole on the top of the cowl. So, it should be ready for engine runs and who knows what might happen
