I've started putting my Libelle together, all very nice quality and goes together very precisely. Only mod I've made so far is to put some 4mm ply wooden mounting rails in the pod for the servos - I'm not a fan of applying cyano to £18/ea servos I might want to reuse! Dave - do you mind posting me a photo of the inside of your Libelle's pod? I'm using a FrSky TFR4B Rx and things are looking very tight
-
Good to know, thanks Dave. I ordered 10cm and 20cm extensions with mine as wasn't sure what was needed. At 69p per extension I felt I could stretch to it after the cost of the SD100s
-
Thanks, in the end I just went for the SD100s - at least if bought in UK I can return if faulty. Phoenix Model Products are selling them for £15/ea which is a good price.

I just ordered my Libelle from Hyperflight. Gone for SD100s all round with the wing sticker set to stiffen things up. Since the SD100s run at HV, I've also gone for a 2s LiPo to power the setup. I hesitated at the cost of the servos, but your post has just made me (even) happier as I hate cutting servos out of foam airframes - esp. if the servo fails and wrecks the airframe in flight!
-
Dave, thanks for the candid advice as always! Hope you had a good day of gliding... I was looking at the SD100s before I wrote the original post as heard too many bad things about Genings. Also, I would like to buy some servos that could possibly be used in a more advanced DLG in the future should I so wish. Do you know where the Dymond 4.7 servos can be purchased from for a more palatable price - my searches of the usual far-East vendors have not been particularly successful... or do I just have to suck up Ripmax's price? Well, one step at a time - but I'd certainly like to
-
Thinking of getting one - anyone got one? There's plenty of info on the Internet but always good to hear it from someone known! Particularly interested in servo choice as size is critical, but the Hitec HS35 around which it was designed is impossible to come by...

Lovely footage of this very large Vulcan at LMA Cosford this weekend.

My understanding of the addition of nitromethane is that whilst it increases power, also makes the engine easier to tune due to increase in available oxygen and thus fuel available for a favourable mixture on intake stroke. I fully expect to re-tune my OS55 on the new 12%, hopefully I won't lose the really nice idle I currently have on a 12x6 APC Dave - given you have tried a lot of nitro mixes - in your opinion is there a "tipping point" for 2-strokes where idle speed/throttle response becomes much better? E.g is 10% half as good as 20% (over exaggeration but you get the point!).
-
I've ordered some 12% OptiMix. Will be interesting to see how much different that is from 20%. The manual suggests 5-20% and does note that the engines are factory tuned on 15% nitro. Probably none of this is going to be game changing
-
Any recommendations for nitro content on the OS 55AX. I tried it on OptiFuel 20% which seems to run fine but is clearly over-the-top. Thinking of bringing it down to 12%. Thoughts, what has worked for others?

Thanks Gerard. I've always used the attached PDF to compare props - I imagine is based on a similar methodology. Comparative Propellor Loading Chart.pdf

Wow, that's a proper "fine pitch" 3D prop well suited to the Yak The spool up must be excellent for prop-hanging, but probably not ideal for the WOT 4 mine will be going on! I have heard the engine "comes alive" on lower load props than the 12x7 so perhaps an 11x7 will be equivalent-ish to a 12.25x3.75 for it. I will fly it a bit and see, it's the only way!
-
Thanks Trevor, good to hear that the recommendations in the manual do in fact make sense!! Some of the comments on RCGroups suggest binning the manual. Maybe this engine is very sensitive to altitude
-
Has anyone run an OS 55AX before and have prop recommendations? It's going in a WOT4 Mk2 ARF ad will probably run on 16% Bekra fuel. Manual suggests 12x7, 12x7, 13x6, 13x7 but I've read mixed reports on RC Groups etc. about how well the engine performs on these with most suggesting that they are too much load - would be happy to hear all suggestions, esp. if backed up by experience! Perhaps an 11x7 or 11x8 might be good? Cheers

Cabbie, I've added you to the CAMFC Members group. You should now see a forum called "Flying Diary" - should be fairly obvious how it works, but you might like to use it to let others know when you're going/there as oftentimes people will join based on this if they live close. Happy flying! (Hint: Tapatalk app on Android/iPhone is brilliant for letting people know/following forum when not infront of a computer).

Absolutely. Just need to find something I can fly at Fickleshole and pay you a visit

Constantly. There's no shortage of experience in turbines at the club, so I think it is just a matter of time and saving the pennies

CellPro PL6 - highly recommended. I have had mine for the last couple of years and it has been excellent. Can deliver 1000W of power if you give it 24V supply or 500W on 12V. I modified a computer PSU to supply necessary current for less than £20. Very configurable with a big memory for different batteries. Can connect to the computer to graph (and record for later) internal resistance, capacity etc. Not cheap, but if you have large/expensive batteries I think this is a good investment. It also has software for parallel charging and a nicely set of daisy-chain balance leads for use in thi

After a year or so of building (slowly) I successfully maidened my PilotRC Extra 330SC 88" (55cc) over the weekend. 11 successful flights and safely back in the hangar now. Flew like a dream with minimal mixing or trim needed Looking forward to seeing you all at the Summer BBQ!

Are you sure the motor shaft isn't being held in place by a circlip? It should be possible to pull the motor apart as per photo below with a small amount of force. Anyway, I've replaced the shaft tonight for you in my spare one... come and get it tomorrow if you need to fly urgently

Keep us posted Dave (and look after the fish)
