OK, so here's what to do. Set the arm where you want it, and try and do the nut up so you can gently move the barrel and arm to one end. Move it to the far end in the direction of doing up the nut - which way will depend on the side the arm is on the carb. When the barrel is at the far end and won't go any further, do the nut up while trying to hold the arm still. It's at this time when you will have to have a few goes, and maybe back the arm up slightly so that it moves to it's final correct position as you tighten the nut. Incidentally, the carb is half open when the leading edge

Thread lock is OK on some carbs but not others - it all depends on what carb/make it is. Am I right that as you tighten the nut, the arm moves to the wrong position? Are you using an appropriate spanner? Can you come up Sunday and I'll look at it for you? So many questions....

Yeah, I should never have put a smoke pyro onto a model made of foam and not expected the wing to fold in flight due to the heat and me doing a power-on flat spin with a WW2 bomber! Who'd have thought THAT would have happened... Shame - nice looking model wasnt it?

LOL - I look forward to it Arun! Perceived wisdom is as follows: At end of the day, empty the tank, and then run the engine until it won't fire anymore (all fuel used up in the system). Add after-run oil into the system (through the carb venturi or similar) and turn the enine over to distribute the oil around the motor. If possible, store the model with the motor prop-up, so that any remaining oil runs away from the bearings into the bottom of the crank-case to eliminate rusting of the bearings as much as possible. I should say, that I've never used after-run oil myself. I did b

Probably the most effective is petrol, but remove all the rubber parts before hand. Otherwise, use fuel, WD40 or meths. Was I that memorable? lol

Hi Arun. It would probably get it off the ground, if the ground was dry, the grass short, and the wind was blowing. Rolls and loops probably as well, but with quite a bit more effort. The bigger disadvantage would be that you would not feel so comfortable flying it in stronger winds, which we will be getting more of soon. If its not too much of a pain, why not just swap it over and try it, then just swap it back after? Whats the model your thinking of buying?

Hi Arun. Ronseal is OK, anything to seal the wood really. I use Spektrum paints who also do a matt, satin and clear aerosol fuel proofer. You can also get tins of the stuff old fashioned style that you can just slap on. You can always do it later to be honest, so I wouldnt worry if you need to order it. All the parts of the Maggy can be got at without the cowl/motor/tank so you can do it after covering and before final assembly if you wanted. Jim

Will any pilot who is booked in to fly at this years’ Southern Model Airshow at the Hop Farm, and who is NOT now going to be coming on either Saturday or Sunday PLEASE let us know as soon as possible by emailing [email protected] (you do not need to reply if you are still attending). As you all know, slots are very busy at this show, and no-shows really affect our ability to maximise the flying for both the visitors and pilots – that’s you! By telling us you will no longer be coming will mean more flying for everyone else, and that could well be you in future years. W
