  1. Test flew the Pitts this afternoon - lots of power, but a couple of little problems to iron out. The tail wheel has come adrift (already). I didnt like the way it was fixed to the rudder, and sure enough its come off. Also, the engine needs more cooling. I think I'll cut some more out of the cowl first of all, and then maybe fit some baffles. Looks good though and is certainly speedy! Bring on the limbo!
  2. Those of you who saw my Cermark Pitts flying will know how well it went. Sadly, it didn't survive me doing a limbo in the fun-fly, so when I saw this kit on the BMFA for only £80 it seemed a good replacement. Not as big as the Cermark Pitts, and not as good quality, but at the money I wasn't going to moan. Anyhow it arrived Saturday in a big box and will be test flown tomorrow (Friday) hopefully. I fitted the OS BX1 1.08 2-stroke that was in my other Pitts, so it should go like a rocket. I did have to cut 25mm off the front of the motor box to allow it to fit though! Here's a c

    Heli Scale Project

Just picked up an MD530 fuselage kit for one of my helicopters, so I'll be posting some pics here of how it all goes together. Its a 50 size body of the MD530E, so its got the pointy nose, and the rocket pods on the side. All in green at the moment - we'll see what colour it ends up with I need to know what the difference is between the normal Raptor50 and the Titan now... Oh and Nutz - guess what I need now! lol
  6. OYYY!!! At least it wasn't '... looks like Jimbo, except without his Chav suit'....
  7. I agree with Gerard, but would like to keep the crashing plane element

    F2B

Well, she flew at last! Twice actually The first flight was.. ermmm interesting, with loads of trim needed to get her to fly straight. Then, to make matters worse, the engine cut and I had to do a dead stick landing at completely the wrong place. Just managed to turn the draggy old bipe into wind but only managed the rough. No damage to speak of, so off we went again a little while later. Much better the second flight - I'd re-aligned the elevator halves. I think that the brass tube that joins the elevator control wires is twisting and needs a look at. Still a handfull to fly, be
  9. I'd have a cap, but if we are going to do T-shirts, can they be of a reasonable quality, and not 300% nylon with some polyester thrown in for extra stinkyness hehe
  10. Cool! I knew you'd be OK Chris, or I wouldn't have suggested you Glad you enjoyed yourself! Well done all involved - another great show. J.

    Extra-wot

Had the pleasure to test fly Geoffs new Xtra-Wot this morning. It was a little windy, but this is not an ARTF and handled the conditions very well. After a little rudder trouble, we got everything set, and after a couple of flicks the Laser 180 was purring away. Very little correction required after a very quick takeoff at full power, and basically everything went as expected for such a proven design. After some trimming, and a couple of settling circuits she did loops, rolls, inverted and stall turns easily, and the stall was non-existent. Geoff had a little stir, then I came in
  12. Broke the Panic already Oh well....
  13. Here's a couple of pics of my newly finished Mini Panic. Ain't she cute?? Test flew her today and its a complete hoot! Also, a pic of Geoff P's latest, a Chris Foss Extra-Wot. Should be in the air very soon!

    Fuel for Saito?

They're called 'Climbout', and they are the people who make the Avro range of helicopters. When you come out of Coulsdon going South, there's a trading estate on the left which you get too under the bridge (is it called 'Ullswater Trading estate'??). Anyhow - that's them... http://www.climb-out.com/home.php

    Fuel for Saito?

Trev. I've also used Southern Modelcraft 5% synthetic with good results. Do a search on BlinkTrading before parting with your cash.... I seem to remember reading some less than positive comments. There's a heli place in Coulsdon that will sell you Magnum by the case too.

    Fuel for Saito?

Here's what Saito have to say about it... http://saito-engines.info/fuel.html The summary is pretty good I think... 'In summary, any commercial 2-stroke or 4-stroke fuel should be fine, provided you make sure the castor oil content is low, with mostly synthetic oil. The only difference between commercial 2-stroke fuels and 4-stroke fuels is the total oil content (4-stroke fuels typically have 2-3 % less total oil content compared to 2-stroke fuels).' Irvine 5% or 10% it is then....

    Fuel for Saito?

Trevor - Ive always used Irvine contest 10% or Sport 5%, or failing that, Southern Modelcraft Synthetic 5% in all my engines. I've found that the 2 strokes will run on pretty much anything, and the 4 strokes run a bit better in the cold with a little nitro. For general sport flying - mostly what we do - that's good enough, and being a lazy sod, I can't be bothered with different fuels all over the place so I settle for any of the 3 above. I do use other stuff for my helis, but that's a different story. Hope that helps.... J.

    F2B

Darren is just miffed cos his little Pattern ship had engine troubles all day. His OS FS70 Super Pumped Fours Stroke (or whatever its called) just wouldn't run properly, despite my tender ministrations... And the F2B??? Well the sweet Laser100 fired at the first touch of the starter (Darren was watching - say it isn't so Dazzle), fresh out the box, after never having been run before... And how fantastic she went - no problems, 3 tanks straight through, hand started half way through the first tank, loads of power at the top and a lovely idle to boot - especially that Laser gurgling
