  1. Fuselage all stringered up ready to cover
  2. Peter, Is this the one that only weighs 4lb? How did you achieve such a low weight?
  3. If you make it yourself it can be as strong as you want it to be, just have to watch the weight as it is easy to pile on the lb and oz just by adding a bit of strengthening here and there, especially in the tail where every ounce you add to the tail requires about 3x as much added to the front to balance, which makes 4oz added to the overall weight.
  4. I found this website that contains details of many U.S. aircraft cockpits that might be of interest to someone. Anyone know of a similar site for UK aircraft?
  5. Hi Gerard, Traplet. Choose "Product Catalogue" in the menu and scroll down to "Construction Plans". They also sell moulded canopies and cowls, spats etc. for some models. Also, MyHobbyStore have a good range of plans and hardware. Are you thinking of building from scratch?
  6. Just a couple of pictures of my latest model Hurricane built from plans. Only sport scale this one. I have never made a plane with retracts before. After seeing Andre's YT Spitty I think I will angle them forward slightly to reduce noseovers, as they are only just in front of the CofG. Wingspan 63" Engine ASP FS70

    YT Ultimate .46

Funnily enough, my wife bought me a World Models Ultimate 90 for my birthday. If we had a race would it be the Ultimate Contest?
  8. This article describes modifying a glow engine to run on petrol, anyone considered it?

    Plans, where from

Also, MyHobbyStore.com has a good selection of plans. I think it is associated with RCM&E magazine.

Getting better thanks. Strangely, I am much better when there is no-one watching. Give me another few weeks and I will be touching the top of the tree like all the other nutters

    My new Taxi Cup II

Nice to see a trainer that looks a bit like a real plane. The magazine review this month gave it a good write up too. Look forward to seeing it fly

    Plans, where from

Traplet plans service is still going Select Product Catalogue in the menu on the left and scroll down to Construction Plans They have a good selection going back many years. They also sell canopies, cowls, spats etc. to match some of the models.
  13. Just a thought born out of ignorance more than knowledge, could the small hole in the diaphragm backplate be tapped for a small nipple like the pressure nipple on glow exhaust rather than brazing a tube on?
  14. just land it harrier style in the boggy bit, just get dirty then not damaged

    Miles Magister

this seems like a good price for the Saito 91s - £183. Anyone shopped at ModelShopLeeds? Are they ok?

I will do that. A secondhand one is more enticing. Anyone reading this have a laser 75/80 for sale? I would be interested for one in good condition for the right price.

I doubt there are any 20 year old ASP's, I think China was still ruled by Mao Tse Tung wasn't it ? But I see what you mean, a Laser is a solid investment rather than a throwaway. You could probably still get a good price for the laser 75 but a used ASP probably isn't worth very much. I just need to check the length of the Laser80 will fit as it is about 1/2" longer then the ASP.

Hmmmm! Laser 80 £215. 13x8 prop at 10,000 rpm that's about right. And it would fit the same mounting as ASP80. Never owned a Laser before. Sounds like I might have to indulge and use the ASP in another plane.

Aiming for the static scale club night if we have one this year, any idea when it might be? I like the ASP .61 in the Harvard, starts okay and nice and smooth. What type of engine would you put in it?

My attempt at wing fillets. The Miles Magister has rather large curvy fillets. I made them up from wedges of 1/2" balsa block and sanded them to shape. Fiddly and messy the way I have done it. Must find out a better way at the next club night hopefully.
  21. Gave the cowl a bit of a "Nip and Tuck", doesn't look so goggle-eyed now. Also added a purple pipe so I can experiment with tuned pipes. Just for fun. Had to add some spacers between engine and manifold to clear the fuselage so I expect that has messed up the tuning. I'll sort that out later after I see how it runs. Now I call it a Piped CRAP232 Zetec or PCRAP-Z for short. (Hey, now I know how the chinese think up the names for their micro electric planes)
  22. For the ignorant among us what are fuel dots?
  23. Looks like a really nice finish Terry and a really quick build. Have you flown it yet? What are they like to fly?
  24. At last it is finished including home made spats. I call it my CRAP232 Zetec. CRAP232 because it only bears a passing resemblance to a CAP and Zetec because it now has mesh grilles on each side of the cowl to stop the rather large cowl acting as an air scoop.
  25. Thought I would have a go at making spats. Started just making one and will make the other if sucessful. This took about 1.5 hours, not too bad.
