Cool I know what I'm building next https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?377358-Weston-Cougar-4000
-
Ok Emay I'll bring it to the field with me tomorrow . See you then, B
-
I have a brand new spectrum dx4e transmitter available for free to a good home It is brand new and I am giving it away because the plane it is for is in the oak, and the tx is no use to me It has low/high rates, bind/panic button as well as an aux switch, v tail mixes and servo reversing function. Collection at field only
-
Well it runs, but is spluttering and is producing a lot of exhaust fumes that are what I would call a bit black I have tried to tune it, but it keeps cutting when I even touch the needle. B
-
I'll strip it down today to see whats what. TBH I'm not really fussed that much. The engine cost me about £10 if that, so I figure flying it for the whole of summer and most of winter is a fair trade. If its all gone to pot I know where I can get a very cheap new 46 I cant imagine anything seriously wrong as it still turns over perfectly, and if there was cylinder or bore damage after a few turns something would have got stuck, broken or jammed? See you tomorrow, B
-
I was in a full power climb out. It just died "normally", no noise or unusual occurrence, just the regular cough cough stop. The engine appears fine, turns over nicely. I'm wondering if its something deeper wrong as in the past month its been a very sad engine, and before that it was perfect. Anyway I'll run it on Sunday and see what happens. Considering the plane cost me £45, I'm fine with taking it up with a dodgy engine
-
Last week the carb stuck, the week before it chucked the prop off and smashed the spinner, and this week it produced gloop. It used to be a ultra reliable engine....
-
Thanks Trev and a happy new year. I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that I had just tuned it myself Anyway, see you then
-
Whilst flying my normally 100% fuss free wot trainer the engine cut, no biggie. On landing the engine was covered in black oil/gunk coming from the exhaust and cylinder head itself, and it won't re start. I'm bringing it up on Sunday, but any ideas until then? B

Nice

Colour scheme is your choice, the highest number is best, as its the latest mark

There's the; Wot 4 foame - electric only Wot 4 EP - 80% original wot 4 size, electric only Wot 4 - IC or electric Basically the Wot 4 EP and the original Wot 4 are the same plane, apart from the EP is 80% size. It's sooo confusing

So I've restored a few gliders, one of the notable ones being the Cambrian models Slingsby Eagle sailplane, which flew well on several occasions. I have also flown a stripped trek sumo wing off a cliff, and somehow got it back Anyway, there's a storm coming up here, with gusts of 50mph so that's that on the flying front until next year B

Glad I could help B

Its also no fun starting out in winter, like I did, as the whole experience is ruined by the engine not starting, and then the plug burns out There are a few planes on the market, the cougar being one of them, that can be IC or electric. With the cougar as an example, when you are doing leccy you have to cut out 4 holes in firewall for the leccy motor mount and the lipo goes in the supplied tray. You then glue a bit of ply for the esc to sit on. When you go to IC, these holes should really be filled up, the esc tray must be removed, the lipo tray must be modified and a throttle servo

Personally, if I were looking for an electric plane with tons of capability, I'd honestly go for the Wot 4 Foam-e every time. It teaches you a lot of skills whilst spare parts are cheap and repairing is easy. It can be used in the funfly, like I use mine. I believe it is around £120/£140 and it uses 3s 2200mah lipos. I run mine on cheap hobbyking ones and it works a treat. The new Wot 4 EP is an 80% size version of the original IC wot 4, but is wot 4 foam-e size and is meant only for electric. The cougar honestly is a great plane, but as I proved last year, it's not a plane for beginners
-
Well, If you use a bung for the muffler, and clean the fuz and wing with cleaner at the field, dripping oil is no problem. As a first IC engine, I highly recommend an ASP engine from just engines. Of course, if you wish to buy an expensive engine such as a decent OS, then that's ok as well, indeed I have just taken delivery of a new cougar with an OS 35 and I have noticed the difference. An ASP 46 would go with the wot 4 IC well. As for the cub, I personally would start with a leccy foam one and learn to control turns with rudder and balance with ailerons. TBH there's no need

I'll also be keeping you all up to date with my gliding adventures on the Scottish north east coast

Flew the cougar extensively yesterday. It is now my favourite plane it my small fleet I love the way it hovers in a breeze and is happy tottering along at walking pace, and then just stops in mid air Can't wait for the funfly That's my camfc flying done for 2016, see you all in 2017. B

What does it charge ? IE just lipo? I have ordered a £40 over lander charger so if you can sell it sell it but if not I'll buy it off you?
-
Thank you Dave I'll take a look at the fusion charger. The only reason I'd get the expensive overlander one is because I'm lazy and that would be my charger for the next 6 years. As regards to DC or AC/DC, most of the chargers that I'm looking at are AC/DC. In fact I've only seen on DC only charger despite looking at quite a few chargers B
-
The first one I won't buy because the seller can spell lipo properly The second one I do like I don't know what I quite need ! I just like the Overlander because I'm pressed for time to charge stuff and it charges two at once. Would you say that the Overlander charger(s) are overkill? IE am I looking at something that is stupidly priced or is that around the price of charges that you all have/use?
-
But is that way too expensive for me? I really do like it because with the wifi bit, the charger is really safety orientated, IE perfect for me Overlander also do a basic advanced charger - http://www.wheelspinmodels.co.uk/i/237607/ The wifi charger - http://www.wheelspinmodels.co.uk/i/254383/ Wifi bit - http://www.wheelspinmodels.co.uk/i/262233/ What do you all think? Is the more expensive charger too expensive? I kind of want to buy it now and have it for years, like my 3 year old £4 hobbyking lipo charger
-
I do like the wifi module http://www.wheelspinmodels.co.uk/i/254383/
