Steve, You are probably well aware, but apparently the Micro's big brother has problems with the security of the elevon horns. Allegedly, they are only glued on over the paintwork and have a habit of coming adrift after a time. Don't know if this applies to the 180 version. Advice is to replace the default horns with screwed / bolted ones using a backing plate. I was very tempted by the larger size one after reading a review in RCM&E. So far I have resisted

Rich, If you set it up on the Spektrum I can loan you a spare JR Tx I have which I used as a buddy box to learn with.
-
Rich, I'd certainly be interested in seeing a working installation and learning how it all works. Not sure about buying all the kit though.
-
Now that could be very interesting -a powered rudder! Look forward to seeing developments on this one Andre. The programming of the TX alone will be challenging. That's what keeps this hobby endlessly entertaining.

Thanks for the links Dave. I will have a browse.

Speed in Firefly terms means faster than a quick walking pace! The deluded belief that the firefly could disappear anywhere in a straightish line would be a nice luxury. Onwards Scotty to warp factor 0.00000000000000000000000000000001

Got what I'm calling the "Trevor motor" from Robotbirds today. Have ordered a couple of 7 x 4 and one 6 x 5.5 APC props for experimentation. Speed, speed............ more speed. Now Jim, when are you going to join the Firefly clan and add to the mayhem in the sky?

thanks very much Trevor. Will have a look. i like the on board fly as copilot!
-
Yaay Trevor! Great news. Look forward to an increasing participation in Firefly madness at the field. I think Andre or Dave are your best bet for high power setup advice.
-
Looks great Jim. Are you up at the field with it tomorrow? Sent using Tapatalk

Don't see the point unless it is significantly cheaper than the DX8 I think it would have been better to produce a 9 channel tx.

Green one gets my vote purely for its looks. Much better looking aircraft than the Extra!

Arun, My Cougar has an Irvine 39 on board (lovely engine!) and it runs comfortably with an APC 11 x 4 prop. Both thrust and response are very good. Can usualy fly it around on about two thirds throttle with no problems. You'll certainly enjoy flying the model.

Don, I saw the landing and was sorry to see the resultant damage to such a beautiful model. Your controlled landing to avoid any possible risks is an example to all rc flyers when the unexpected happens. Hope the repairs go well and you are soon in the air again with the model.

Richard, I second the thanks to Ann for the teas and coffees which were much appreciated by everyone on, or visiting, the flightline. Many thanks should also go to Alan who hauled all the hot water from the campsite to the tea tent. Alan was on a constant supply run throughout both days. Having lifted one of the full water containers he was carrying, this is no mean feat of strength and endurance!

SMAS Traders list - links to their websites!
Gerard replied to Rich's topic in Southern Model Airshow
Lol. You'd better put a time lock on your credit card Richard. You can only use it for five minutes on each day of the show!! Oh, and only make 2 single item purchases per day in the Multiplex venue. As regards the defective links it might be worth telling traders that if links they add to the SMAS website don't, or cease to function they will be removed after say, a month of being first reported. The problem is that the majority of people looking at the website will blame the SMAS website itself, not the particular traders. This will degrade people's opinion/impression of t -
Arun, Possibly a Weston Cougar for the .37? A great plane to fly for fun and it's as docile or as manic as you want to make it! You are welcome to have a flight of my one on a buddy box with Jim if you can wait until after the show. I have a second Tx, buddy lead etc. On the other hand, you might get a deal on one or another model at the show if you are there over the weekend. Decisions, decisions .........

Chris, I've booked the days off from work so aim to be at the hop farm from Wednesday onwards. I am already down for helping out at the lunctime teaching sessions on Saturday and Sunday. Put me down for whatever else suits you.

Looks absolutely fantastic Steve. Best of luck on the maiden and look forward to seeing it in the air!
-
Steve, Pass on good wishes to Tom and I hope he is up and flying again soon.

Is it a former Morris Dancer???

Great shots Leon. Keep up the good work!

Lovely to see Roger flying a Spit again along with that great Laser sound.

Richard, The photo doesn't really make it clear how the valve works. Beside the valve is a filler nozzle which you fit to the end of your fuelling line from the flight box. The valve in the photo is actually standing on the fuel inlet that you stick the nozzle into. Once the nozzle is in place in the valve it shuts off the feed to the carb with the result that the fuel flows or can be extracted from the tank. Once the filler nozzle is removed from the valve the feed to the carb is automatically reopened and fuel flows from the tank through the valve to the carb. Its a neat arr
