Given that people belatedly seem to have got into the FireFly, here's a couple more oddity planes which deserve consideration. Firstly, I was asked where you get EPP sheet from. Well there is Avicraft, but they only have black carbon loaded EPP, which is significantly heavier, marginally stiffer, and difficult to decorate without adding LOADS of weight. Probably because as you say, it is a rarer size combo...and it has to be made and stored for low sales potential??? You should worry, at least you can GET the right size, we have two buses, one with 22" wheels, the other with 25" wheels..............tyres, tubes and flaps have not been made in these sizes for 60 years plus.....................

MMMM, now over 3 plus years old......perhaps the Sticky status could now possibly be removed and the post slide into the sunset, or is this still current and relevant?

Stuff it in the freezer for a while, then (gently at first!) heatgun the casing from a direction that the heat isn't blowing into the bearing ??? I did one many years ago by the reverse, heating the whole lot while trying to avoid heating the bearing, then using freezer aerosol (I used Radiospares electronics type , or plumbers pipe freezer might do) onto the bearing with a fine tube on the aerosol to avoid spraying the casing. That one just fell out then!

Another vote for the Cougar, with a proviso................there's a lot around the place so you might be up with others looking the same, and more importantly while you really get to grips with flying...............they don't have a good scheme for orientation as they come......not enough distinction upper to lower......so I'd say be prepared to do a bit of easy personalisation (and that doesn't mean by stuffing it in a tree!!)

I use Aerocote, I buy the Matt and don't shake it if I want gloss!! This is two part mix(with catalyst), and I use it AFTER covering to help seal the covering edges of all seams as well as the engine and tank bays.

I thought I was remarkably restrained, really........................

Interesting, first time I have seen the "Pit" tree as anything more than a stub. All those Heli's............ Where are they now??

Here's a pic with the FG canopy................. How they do those canopies for the money I'll never know..............apart from the five differing paint colours you see, the whole lot is oversprayed with a thinned out metalflake to make it sparkle. All for currently £7.77 in UK. One thing to watch for, the HK FG canopies are thinner and more pointed than the plastic ones, so battery space is tighter.

Using two separate 3 cell batteries, there's a slight concern they won't drain equally, so have done a few test flights. Just as one example, flown only to very first signs of drop in power, one pair of batteries took on recharging separately 2049 and 2050 mAh. Quite well balanced then!!!!

Had a few more flights now. Yesterday was very turbulent, yet it was pretty easy and stable. Here's what it looks like. This is with the "supplied" plain white flexible plastic canopy with some vinyl I added. I have a flasher detailed scheme fibreglass Canopy (a massive £6).

I would expect it would be fine, can't rememeber if I have used it specifically on this EPP derivative, possibly not, but the simple test is to put a small offcut into some and soak it. You do keep offcuts for repair purposes?!

Plus one for IPA. I bought two quite large bottles mail order last year, however, I'm away from home so not able to check where. I also use it for positioning double sided taped sponge rubber tyres on model car plastic wheels, it allows the taped wheel to slide into place inside the tyre, then evaporates and help it to stick. They NEVER shift afterwards even with massive g forces on them! I use a lot of "reinforced tape over EPP" finishing because of the slope soarers I develop for Flying Wings. I prefer and now use 3M77 spray, expensive and not easy to obtain, certainly NOT the UH

Incidentally, the complete 500 Class Heli inc gyro, servos and ESC/UBEC and motor, in fact ALL bar the Rx and batteries, came to £158.77. The basic kit came with all the "essential" upgrades/fixes with one exception, the front tail belt drive with metal gear, which I added at purchase and was £3.75.

So I arrive at Poling, and the grass (mostly tall stalky weeds more like) were so long I could not fly, so back up to Fickelshole, which was nice and short. I have three sets of cells (2 of 2300mAh 3S per set), and I flew all three sets, being conservative as to duration till I know what rate I'm draining the cells at. It's very enjoyable, nicely stable but at the same time lively. Just briefly hovered the least used set in the garden with my DPC connected before recharging them, and got the following figures from a stable 1 metre high hover with one power pump. Time: 0:41 Rat

Blimey, was that last post here April...................... OK, so it's built. The frame build was painless once started, it all fitted and no cheese screws were discovered. Gear installation was made a little more awkward as the perfectly fitting Turnigy servos were not available, and Align ones too dear for me, the next nearest Tirnigy were short for the pre-drilled holes, but with one end fitted, the other fitted to the frame hole edge so with washers was secure. Then the ESC I'd bought was getting far too hot, and resetting when the throttle was closed, forcing a different ES

Hence my comment re: possible reflex needed.......although you'd have to try low throttle effect to make sure it wasn't thrust line.......it's immediately evident from the video that when you relaxed, and the "held in" correction reduced, it instantly plummeted. Bear in mind that a pusher with the prop well behind the CG needs the thrust line angle reversed from a front prop., and as it's a long way behind, the effect is increased. I'll demo the effect of reflex on one of mine sometime...............
