Maybe it should have gone in the health & safety thread!

Ilopango Airshow 2012 - posted on another forum, but worth sharing. Full size super-low, and the flying in the last minute of the video is something special... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-s3TsMO5 ... ature=plcp

Hi Colin, thanks for the kind offer! I'll drop you a PM...

Anyone know where I can get metal bush (or tube) with an internal dia 8mm, external dia 10mm? Struggling to find it anywhere... Need it to fit in the hole on backplate of my aluminium spinner so it correctly fits the crankshaft of the Saito 82.

Great thread Gary... keep it up! Will try and do something similar for my AcroWot (ARTF) when it hits the table in the next couple of weeks...

Kids keeping you up? All you have to do tonight is read them the above OP and by the third sentence they'll be sparko.............. That and the chicken pox!

If only I'd known that before I went to bed last night... I wouldn't be so tired!

Oops, never did check the weight Agree the Landscape looks nice...

Congratulations! Certainly 1/4 Hangar 9 cubs have flown nicely at our field so don't see why the Black Horse one wouldn't. I always thought the Black Horse Fiesler Storch looked great for that engine and the short field operations on our runway. It is a bit more pricey, but nice model. Fiesler Storch Martin tells me that plane was able to "hover" (zero ground speed) in right winds and was the subject of a couple of daring escapes by spies. Perfect for Fickleshole

Wonder if Biggin Hill Helicopters would "play"?

Nice! Although that is a big risk to take for any model:) -
Thanks Dave, Gary. Very helpful chart too, will file that one away...

Agree, the 14x4W is a long shot and as it happens did come as a recommendation from a 3D pilot - but I was given it free (by a Scotsman!) so thought I'd test it. I have indeed checked out that link and the manual for the engine, but what I was hoping someone might advise was not what the right dia/pitch was - this is reasonably well defined, but more the difference across brands. e.g. Brand A, B, C could each produce a 14x6 that puts the engine under significantly different loads and therefore revs. Anyway, in the end I'll probably take the safe but boring approach of the 14x6 APC, but

No worries Jim - you've got an entire farm to think about

Anyone got any good tips on propellers for this engine - specifically paired with an ARTF AcroWot? I'm planning to test the following: Graupner G-sonics recommended by Dave Wilshere (Motors & Rotors) - apparently this range loads up very differently to APC props. The suggested pitches are: 13x8 14x7 I also have an APC 14x4 wide - a few people seem to have had success with this. Those of you that have run the Saito in the past - what props have you used?

That's less oil than a 30:1 or a 50:1 mix ... less oil to spit

I use 100:1 Amsoil Sabre in my DLE30 per Leon's recommendation. It is hard to source but very clean even by petrol standards. Always worked fine for me.

We did say we'd do a RaspberryPi night didn't we back in those halcyon days of Summer?
-
This is an extremely courageous project! I'm watching with interest as you make it sound so simple It wasn't clear where you were going to put the fuel tanks, are they going in the wing?
-
I hope I'm not jumping to conclusions, but block balsa will probably not provide a suitable bulkhead for motor mounting.

Although we went off topic a while ago, it's probably time to either come back on topic about nimh batteries, or start a new thread for this question.

Ah, but there is a good answer! One of the Safety Master Servo Testers in your plane temporarily to test in flight will tell you current over time as a graph. £21 is a pretty reasonable price for the peace of mind on a big plane.

I've just ordered a couple of these to test, will report back when they turn up from China http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor ... duct=23823

Maybe that is your decision to make based on the (very comprehensive) facts presented! Ultimately this hobby is a form of engineering - a willingness to analyse the facts for yourself be they based on electronics, mechanics or aerodynamics and make a pragmatic decision will serve you well. None of these things are essential to succeed, but they damn well help

This is my understanding, happy to be corrected. I assumed be "last as long" you mean for a single discharge, as against total life before it goes in the bin. If it is the latter, the answer is probably, "it depends" Capacity is measured in milli-amp hour (mAh) which indicates how many constant milli-amps of current can be supplied by the pack for one hour. So if your servos pull on average 1A, a 2000mAh battery will last two hours irrespective of voltage. During the course of discharge voltage obviously drops gradually (see Martin's graphs above). Indeed it may also drop temporarily
