  1. OK, so it finally arrives. Firstly, I have two spare flat screens, but all are VGA not HDMI. So I lash it up on composite output to a spare flat screen TV, and get a picture, so I can see through login OK and onto the graphical desktop. I have fitted a MS Wireless keyboard and mouse which was in the config list for specific keyboards. Initially this seemed fine but after some time key repeat seems to have become a bit erratic. Might be batteries so have some on charge. I was also getting the TV menu popping up all the time but new batteries in the remote seems to have fixed that!!
  2. The other thing I didn't specifically mention and perhaps should have done is the seemingly pretty widely reported petrol engine effect, giving a higher level of vibration into the airframe, putting RC gear to the test big time. I'm only reporting on others comments here, no direct experience, good or bad. This is relevant as I have recently taken apart a S3001 (budget analogue) and a S3152 (middle of the road digital), and the S3152 had MUCH more robust internal construction and wasn't left with unsupported wires hanging in space and loosely located components to vibrate to a bad connect
  3. Been watching this thread with interest. Been good reading and interesting, thanks. The pushrod issue (and others) have been mentioned in several build threads around the Internet since its inception - all they had to do was put an Addendum in, one sheet of A4, but that's Ripmax for you!! A word of caution though with regard your servo choice. The S3001 and S3010 are both analogue servos, but have very different power. The S3001 is only 2.4kg/cm at 4.8v, 3kg/cm at 6v, the S3010 is much more powerful at 5.2kg/cm at 4.8v, 6.5kg/cm at 6v. The S3010 is also quite a bit faster in action
  4. Happens quite frequently, esp when wet for days, give it a dosing of thick oil that will not wash out or freeze and it'll probably be fine. When I arrived the other day the person who had last locked it had pulled the chains super tight before forcing the lock shut, I had to go round to the inside to attempt to unlock it and even then had to undo the bolt so the gate dropped a bit taking tension off the lock loop. The odd thing was that it had to have been locked from the inside, yet nobody was in from any club and the farmer didn't appear inside the field in several hours of me being the
  5. Well, blow me....................!!
  6. And then tonight I get:- "Your RaspberryPi order has been despatched today. If you ordered a Raspberry Pi board as part of your order we are pleased to inform you that we have sent you the upgraded 512MB Revision 2 board to thank you for your continued patience. We hope this upgrade is acceptable to you If you have any questions please email:[email protected] Thank you for your Order RS Components"

  8. I'm certainly NOT in the "flicking is fun" camp...........I'm in the "get it in the air by the fastest means and thrash it" camp...............I don't have any difficulties flick starting engines, but do not see the point, and nobody is going to convince me risking my finger(s) is a good thing! On board starters?............ a lot of weight and complexity to carry for the sole useful purpose of maybe being able to recover from a dead stick in a dodgy place. Many years ago I joined North Birmingham RC Boat Club. In "M" boat racing you start the engine and launch as part of the race.
  9. I have just been delivered a new DLE 30, the only issue being I ordered a 20............
  10. And today I get:- "Thank you for your continued patience in waiting for your Raspberry Pi order. By way of an extra thank you, we’re pleased to let you know that your order for a 256MB Raspberry Pi Model B board will be upgraded to a 512MB revision 2 version of Raspberry Pi." By the time it comes it'll be quin core 14Tb.................
  11. While the current thing (correctly most of the time) is to highlight the overzealous nature of a lot of the little Hitlers who migrate into H&S as the only place they can ever get to exercise "power", there are occasions when something is downright iffy to the point where it really should not be happening. This show at the very least teeters on the edge of that doesn't it! Inadequate spacing off of the flight line, other entrants far too close to the action, allowed to wander anywhere they like, testosterone fuelled pilots trying to outdo each other, etc, etc, not a good recipe really,
  12. Correction, it's how YOU do it.......... Me, I take a few sheets of EPP, a hot wire, and.................
  13. OOOH, GOOD SPOT!!!! Didn't know they did assorted packs of short lengths of tubes, will order some today!! Update - Ordered..................
  14. OK, when you are bored (or tied to the spot waiting for some batteries to finish charging!!) this thread is for old pictures reflecting the different approach then to that most hated modern phrase. See how extreme an example you can find, no cheating, OK?? I'll start:-
  15. Kids keeping you up? All you have to do tonight is read them the above OP and by the third sentence they'll be sparko..............
  16. Ever wondered how the new bright WHITE LEDs exist when white light is an amalgam of more than one colour? Wondered how they are getting several shades of white inc the yellowed old school "candle tinge", etc? Had sleepless nights puzzling over it? Here is the answer:- White LEDs are actually emitting BLUE light, the final colour you see being created by that blue light passing through a fluorescent material in the envelope, usually phosphor. The amount of (yellow) phosphor doping determines the shade. THERE, don't you feel better now?? Well, you w
  17. i disagree geoff the specified flying weight is only 5kg all up if putting a dle 30 will push it past 7kg i would be greatly shocked to put the model over 7kg the dle 30 would have to weight 3kg on its own where with the exhaust and ignition it only just tips 1kg maybe the maths need to be checked on this one i think there no need for concern with this one trevor with regards to the weight Yup, def a maths check needed................I think you are at cross purposes, Geoff is talking about the last model mentioned, the Storch, which is:- Specification Wingspan: 2850 mm (112
  18. This appears to link the tank level with the carb having fuel in it, which is not necc a given with planes when not being run, esp if you store Fus's hanging prop up as some do. Leaving fuel in the carb was also not my understanding on balance from lots of reading when I first got a petrol engine with Walbro Carb and did some research on best practice. OK, so there are arguments over this it seems, and the following sometimes leaves storage to be defined by the user, however...................(my emboldening) From Helifreak, written by a technical person who has contact with Luis Sa
  19. Nice....... Funnily enough, in between the showers I ran up my Edge 540's Zenoah 26 today to give it a full heat cycle, as not used for many months. First spin of the starter and there it sat idling and throttling nicely as usual. One point I have seen mentioned is that Walbros do not like being left idle with petrol in them, it is said that it knackers the diaphragms. I drain the tank completely after a run and run the engine out of fuel anyway. This also acts as a second line of safety over the kill switch as if someone decides to test its compression and the switch is on it won't k
  20. Too personal a matter really, and what I may like, you may think either unresponsive or too responsive. It isn't always the obvious one that is best, either. Example, the Zenoah powered Extra I bought from Spiffy. He advised it was aerobatic in the "scale" plane sense but wasn't capable of 3D, would not prop hang, etc. It had an expensive Zinger wood. I measured it......it was 1" smaller diameter than the size printed on it (and had not been modified!) I fitted a Master Airscrew of the same notional size/pitch, which was dirt cheap and all that Avicraft had to hand. Usually these
  21. You've been here presumably.............. http://saito-engines.info/index.html (not an official site) I would have thought the 14x4 would be well over-revving it, more a 3D prop for a top end power engine (a prop which I have used as such to good effect, but not on that engine or design of plane). Incidentally, if you want to know where the Acro-Wot design probably originated, look at a Zlin L-50.
  22. I have edited my post above and removed the more club specific text answering the question plus additional text as I had not previously realised that the original post was in an open part of the forum, so subject to non-members posting. My sincere apologies, but one of the ever lurking dangers of a forum that is part open, part not. With regard access, and for the benefit of external people visiting this thread, there is to my knowledge only one normal access route to our pits area, one that has full and proper safety from rules set to achieve it, like flying boundaries, vehicle speed
  23. I'm STILL waiting for mine................ You won't get me to a Club night (you lucky people) for two main reasons:- 1. It's a Thursday night, a night with extremely rare exception I could ever make free. (Or Mon or Tues or Wed as it happens!) 2. It's a Thursday night, a night with extremely rare exception I could ever make free. (Or Mon or Tues or Wed as it happens!)
